The Flaming Dragon that Haunts the Abyss is a raid event featuring Fafnir, a Nightmare related to Little Mermaid. This is a "high-difficulty" event; the first story requires total power of 50,000, and for the next two stages 60,000 and 70,000 power respectively. There are no continues, and Little Mermaid jobs have increased efficiency in the event stories. This event only appears for 30 minutes at a time at predetermined times.
BOSS: Fafnir[edit | edit source]
|Phys. Def:||3||Fafnir unleashes a hard-hitting single-target attack once into the final mode if any player's debuff level is -4 or more.|
|Speed:||3||Keep your party members buffed and handle debuffs with Instruments and buffing weapon skills. In the stages before the boss, it is recommended to clear the plants because leaving them alive allows them to debuff the party. If not too confident, stall (generally at the first stage with just the ghost alive) to buff up before continuing. Fafnir also preferentially targets players with lower DEF.|
Throughout the raid, there are a ton of debuff attacks, that will come back to haunt you during Phase 3 of Fafnir. Nightmares, such as Library Wisp/Guardian, and Mitra/Solitude, needed to get buffs up quickly in Wave 1, Ministels are necessary to upkeep the stats. In the case where Fafnir does too much damage with its regular attacks, summons such as Yata, or Hawk, will make a huge difference to Fafnir's damage output against the high defensive stacks you have. Below is the enemies that you should take out first, in order to avoid debuff or the lack of heals depending on the situation:
Wave 1: Plant, wait with Ghost for people to join and buff up.
Wave 2: Hound, then get pass the wave as quick as possible.
Wave 3: Both Lizard, can regen on Spider.
Wave 4: If 4 DPS, 1 Support: Dragon If 3 DPS, 2 Support: High Plant
After taking the respective enemy out, Regen SP for the Fafnir, summon Yata or Hawk in between the wave going to it.
For Fafnir itself, have the Water Damage Up Nightmare (Fenrir/Freeze Golem or Midgard/Poppy) active to go past Phase 2 as quickly as possible, to avoid fulfilling the condition of his nuke attack. Fafnir's attack output is also increased during Phase 3, so manage your SP and weapons to give the final push.
Phase 1: At the start, he will do an AOE debuff on Attack and Magic Attack. Fafnir will mainly use his Fire Breath that hits 3 random characters. Occasionally, he will an AOE debuff that -1 in Defense and Magic Defense.
Phase 2: His AOE debuff improves drastically (no exact number, but much heavier), and will manly focus on using that. He will occasionally still use Fire Breath.
Phase 3: Fafnir's Attack Power goes up drastically. If any character alive at this stage reaches equal or below -4 in any stack, he will start to use a high powered single target nuke at random targets until the debuffed target dies. Also, he will also use Fire Breath and AOE debuff at random intervals. There are enemies with all 3 elements in this raid, while you should have primarily water DPS for the boss, any magic weapons from other elements are also welcomed on DPS, as the plants all are weak to magic.
Hard Mode[edit | edit source]
Hard Mode was added to the Renewal run of this event that started 16th November 2017. Like Normal, it has three stages. SS Spear of Husks and SS Harp of Husks can be obtained after the first time Hard Mode is cleared. These are SS 99-cost weapons that have low stats and skills and only become usable when they are evolved to L. Evolution of one weapon uses 15 Cores, 5 from each main raid boss (Midgardsormr, Fafnir, and Ogre). Cores can only be obtained via these methods:
- Drop from any Hard Mode raid quest. The higher the difficulty of the quest, the higher the chance of a core dropping.
- Reward for clearing Paragraph 3 on Normal 20 times.
- Reward for clearing Paragraph 3 on Hard 20 times.
- Reward for hosting and clearing Paragraph 3 on Hard once.
